LDAHI

WHO WE ARE

Leadership in Disabilities & Achievement of Hawai’i (“LDAH”) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization founded in 1968 by parents of children with learning disabilities to provide educational advocacy, training, and support to promote public awareness, remove barriers, and provide full opportunities for these children. Today, LDAH serves parents and families of children with any type of disability. Its primary purpose is to provide training, counseling, and advocacy services to help parents successfully navigate Hawaii’s special education system and obtain a free appropriate public education for their special needs children as mandated by law.

Our Mission

To enhance educational, work and life opportunities for children and youth with or at risk of disabilities by empowering them and their families through screening, identification, information, training, and mentoring, and by public outreach and advocacy.

Through a contract with the United States Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP), LDAH has operated and served as The Parent Training and Information Center (PTI) for the State of Hawaii since 1990. As the PTI, LDAH has been responsible for providing education and training to parents, children, professionals and the community members.

Our Vision

Individuals have choice and access to educational, work and life opportunities to be successful regardless of their disabilities.

LEARN MORE ABOUT LDAH

The goal of LDAH is to help families and schools to understand the IDEA and how to use it to benefit children with all disabilities. We serve families of children of all ages (birth to 26) and all disabilities (physical, cognitive, behavioral, and emotional) by providing a variety of services including one-on-one support and assistance, workshops, publications, and web sites.

The majority of Parent Center staff and board are parents of children with disabilities, so they are able to bring personal experience and expertise when working with families.
